CONSIDER THE GLORIOUS TITLES
OF SAINT JOSEPH
He was the true and worthy Spouse of Mary,
visibly fulfilling the place of Mary's Invisible Spouse, the Holy Spirit.
He was a virgin, and his virginity was the faithful reflection of Mary's virginity.
He was the Cherub placed to protect the new Earthly Paradise
from the intrusion of all enemies.
His was the title of father of the Son of God,
because he was the Spouse of Mary, ever virgin.
He was the father of our Lord,
for Jesus rendered him the obedience of a son.
He was the father of our Lord,
because to him were entrusted,
and by him faithfully fulfilled,
the duties of a father—
to protect Him, provide Him a home,
support Him, raise Him, and give Him a trade.
He is Saint Joseph,
for, according to the opinion of many great doctors,
he, like Saint John the Baptist,
was sanctified even before birth.
He is Saint Joseph,
for no other saint but he
lived in such deep intimacy and familiarity
with the source of all holiness—
Jesus, God Incarnate, and Mary, the holiest of all creatures.
